Your local tree surgeons

Addington runs from the old village out to the estate roads of New Addington, and lots of back gardens end at a wood or a strip of green. Most jobs are stump grinding after a tree has come out, felling, crown reductions, hedge cutting and callouts after a storm. We cover Addington from the village and Forestdale up to New Addington. In the old village's conservation area most tree work needs six weeks' notice, so Michael checks where your tree stands and you send in anything that's needed.

What we do

From a single limb to a whole plot cleared, one team and one number. Tap a service for the detail.

Protected trees: Addington, Forestdale and New Addington are all in the London Borough of Croydon. Where a tree has a Tree Preservation Order, the council must give written consent before any pruning or felling, and a dead or dangerous one still has to be reported five days before work. Addington Village is a conservation area, where work on all but the smallest trees needs six weeks' notice, and many trees there also carry preservation orders. Before we quote, Michael checks your tree and tells you what the council needs. The notice or application is yours to send.

The trees round here

Rowdown Wood sits right next to the New Addington estate, north-east of King Henry's Drive. When a tree from the wood edge, or a self-sown tree on the fence line, gets too tall over a back garden, we reduce it or take it down, then grind out the stump to free up the ground.

Round the old village, along Addington Village Road and Kent Gate Way, there are big parkland trees, and a lot of them carry preservation orders. In Forestdale and New Addington it is more often a conifer hedge that has got too tall, a fruit tree that wants a prune, or a stump left over from an old felling that is in the way.

FAQ

The things people around Addington ask us most, answered straight. Anything else, just ask.

How much does stump removal cost in New Addington?

It depends on how wide the stump is, what kind of tree it was and how easy it is to get the grinder to it. Michael gives you a free written price after a look, and a WhatsApp photo with something in it for scale gets you a rough figure sooner. Clearing the chip is part of the price.

Do I need permission for tree work in Addington?

Sometimes. If your tree has a Tree Preservation Order, the council has to give consent first. In the Addington Village conservation area, almost any tree work needs six weeks' notice. Michael checks your tree before we quote and tells you which applies, and you send in the notice or application yourself.

Do you cover New Addington and Forestdale?

Yes, this page covers both, along with the old village. That is Addington Village Road and Kent Gate Way, Forestdale off Featherbed Lane and Pixton Way, and New Addington from Lodge Lane and Fieldway down to King Henry's Drive and Central Parade. Selsdon, to the west, has its own page, and so does Sanderstead beyond it. Croydon itself is on our Croydon page.

Do you take the wood away after felling?

Yes, unless you want to keep some. Branches go through the chipper, the trunk is sawn into logs and we take away whatever you don't want, so the garden is clear when we go. If you have a wood burner, tell us and we'll leave a stack of logs by the back door.

Do you do emergency tree work in Addington?

Yes, any time. Call 07519 952330 when a tree or limb is down on your roof, car or fence, or blocking the road. We make it safe straight away, then come back on a day that suits you to clear the rest.

Can you cut a tall conifer hedge down to size?

Yes. We bring the top down to a height you can live with, cut the sides in and clear all the cuttings. Leylandii and most other conifers stay brown if you cut into old wood, so before we start we tell you how far back the hedge can go.

What is left after you grind a stump?

A shallow hollow full of chip where the stump was. We take the chip away or leave some to dig in, whichever you like, and rake the ground level. Once it settles, you can turf it, plant it or lay a path over it.
