Your local tree surgeons

Caterham sits in the valley of the Caterham Bourne along the A22, a Tandridge town split between the High Street and station in Caterham Valley and the older settlement up on the chalk at Caterham-on-the-Hill. Whyteleafe is the next stop north in the same valley, along Godstone Road; Whyteleafe South sits between the two. Harestone Valley and Tillingdown climb the wooded slopes to the east; Queen’s Park and Chaldon sit out to the west. It is a patch of suburban gardens, street trees and downs woodland, and one we cover as part of our regular Surrey run from Horley.

We are roughly a half-hour drive north of our Horley base via the A22 corridor, so quote visits are easy to fit in and jobs get booked quickly. We are a family firm, established in 2018, and a lot of our work out here comes from one neighbour passing our number to the next.

What we do

Hedge cutting and trimming are the jobs we hear most around Caterham and Whyteleafe, alongside the full tree surgery list. Tap a service for the detail.

Protected trees: Caterham and Whyteleafe fall under Tandridge District Council, and a good number of trees here, especially the mature ones on the Hill and in the older plots, are covered by Tree Preservation Orders. We check the status of your tree before any work and handle the application with Tandridge for you. If you want to check first, you can look a tree up on Tandridge's TPO map.

The trees round here

This is North Downs chalk country dropping into a suburban valley, so the tree stock is a mix: beech, yew, oak and whitebeam on the Hill and the Harestone slopes, mixed woodland toward Tillingdown, and a lot of garden trees and boundary hedges in Caterham Valley and Whyteleafe. Leylandii, laurel, privet and beech screens are the everyday work along the A22 corridor.

Hedge cutting and trimming are the jobs we are asked for most around here: one-off cuts, overgrown screens brought back within the green, and regular upkeep. Alongside that it is crown reductions, deadwood, storm limbs and the occasional full removal. Gardens on the Hill and in Harestone Valley often fall away, so access and rigging matter, and we bring ground boards and the tracked lift on soft or sloping ground.

FAQ

The things people around Caterham and Whyteleafe ask us most, answered straight. Anything else, just ask.

How much does hedge cutting cost in Caterham?

It depends on the length, height and how overgrown the hedge is, so we price hedge cutting in Caterham and Whyteleafe on site rather than guess. A regular trim is one job; bringing a neglected leylandii or laurel screen back within the green is another. Quotes are free and without obligation.

Do you cover Whyteleafe as well?

Yes. Whyteleafe and Whyteleafe South are the next stretch of the same A22 valley, and we cover them from this page as a matter of course. Godstone Road, the station side and the gardens climbing toward Warlingham are all on our regular run.

Do I need permission for tree or hedge work in Caterham?

Sometimes. Caterham and Whyteleafe fall under Tandridge District Council, and a fair number of trees here carry Tree Preservation Orders, particularly the mature ones on the Hill. Hedges are usually fine to cut, but a hedge that is also a protected tree or sits in a conservation area needs a check first. We check before quoting and handle the application for you, so nothing is cut without the right consent in place.

Which parts of Caterham do you cover?

All of it: Caterham Valley around the High Street and station, Caterham-on-the-Hill, Harestone Valley, Tillingdown, Queen's Park and out to Chaldon. Whyteleafe and Whyteleafe South are covered from the same page. We also work the Warlingham, Woldingham and Merstham edges, so being on a boundary is never a problem.

How quickly can you get to us?

We come up the A22 north of Horley, so quote visits are usually within a day or two, most jobs are booked in within a couple of weeks depending on the season, and a dangerous or storm-damaged tree gets a same-day response. Call 07519 952330 at any hour.

How much does tree surgery cost?

It depends on the size of the tree or hedge, how easy it is to reach and how much waste there is to clear, so we price each job properly rather than guess. We come and look rather than quote blind. Quotes are free and without obligation.

Can you work on the steep gardens on the Hill?

Yes. Caterham-on-the-Hill and Harestone Valley often fall away on the chalk, so access and rigging are the job. Everything is rigged and lowered in sections rather than dropped, we use the tracked lift where a climb is not the safe option, and we protect the ground on the way in and out.

Do you take all the waste away?

Always, and it is included in the quote. Hedge cuttings and brash are chipped, timber is cut into logs and the garden is cleared before we leave. Plenty of people out here keep the logs for the wood burner; just say so and we will stack them where you want them.

Do you do emergency callouts?

Yes, 24 hours a day. A limb down over a drive or a tree leaning towards the house cannot wait. Call 07519 952330 and we will make it safe first, then sort the full removal or repair once the immediate danger is dealt with.
