Your local tree surgeons

Nutfield and South Nutfield are two villages of big plots either side of the A25 east of Redhill: the old village strung along Nutfield Road with the church and the Priory up on the ridge, and South Nutfield down around Mid Street and the station. The greensand ridge is the story here, mature specimen trees in the big Victorian gardens with far views south, dropping to the wetter ground around Nutfield Marsh to the north. It is a patch of large, well-treed gardens, and one we are through regularly.

We are only a few minutes east of Redhill and up the road from our Horley base, so quote visits are easy to fit in and jobs get booked quickly. We are a family firm, established in 2018, and most of our work out here comes from one neighbour passing our number to the next.

What we do

From a single limb to a whole plot cleared, one team and one number. Tap a service for the detail.

Protected trees: Nutfield and South Nutfield fall under Tandridge District Council, and a good number of trees here, especially the mature specimens in the older gardens along the ridge, are covered by Tree Preservation Orders. We check the status of your tree before any work and handle the application with Tandridge for you.

The trees round here

This is greensand ridge country, so the tree stock is a mix: oaks, beech, Scots pine and sweet chestnut on the higher ground, the big specimen cedars, redwoods and copper beeches planted around the Victorian houses on Nutfield Ridge, and willows, alders and poplars down where the land falls away to Nutfield Marsh. The rear gardens off Mid Street and the lanes tend to have inherited a leylandii or laurel screen and a fair-sized garden tree or two.

The work here is a mix to match: crown reductions on ridge specimens that have grown over a roof or blocked a view, big laurel and leylandii boundary hedges brought back within the green, brittle willows and poplars taken down off the wet ground, and field-edge hedges cut back hard. Soft ground toward the marsh is part of the job, so we bring ground boards and the tracked lift when a garden cannot take a truck.

FAQ

The things people around Nutfield and South Nutfield ask us most, answered straight. Anything else, just ask.

How much does a crown reduction cost in Nutfield and South Nutfield?

It depends on the size and species of the tree and how much you want taken off, so we price each crown reduction in Nutfield and South Nutfield on site rather than guess. Reductions are skilled, repeat work, and because we climb and rig wherever we can rather than hire in access, our quotes stay keen. Quotes are free and without obligation.

Do I need permission for tree work in Nutfield or South Nutfield?

Sometimes. Nutfield and South Nutfield fall under Tandridge District Council, and a fair number of trees here carry Tree Preservation Orders, particularly the mature specimens in the older gardens up on the ridge. We check your tree's status before quoting and handle the application for you, so nothing is cut without the right consent in place.

Which parts of Nutfield do you cover?

All of it: the old village along Nutfield Road, the big gardens up on Nutfield Ridge and around the Priory, Nutfield Marsh to the north, and South Nutfield around Mid Street, the station and Kings Mill Lane. We also work the Bletchingley, Redhill and South Merstham edges, so being on a boundary is never a problem.

How quickly can you get to us?

Quickly, because you are only a few minutes east of Redhill and up the road from our Horley yard. Quote visits are usually within a day or two, most jobs are booked in within a couple of weeks depending on the season, and a dangerous or storm-damaged tree gets a same-day response. Call 07519 952330 at any hour.

How much does tree surgery cost?

It depends on the size of the tree or hedge, how easy it is to reach and how much waste there is to clear, so we price each job properly rather than guess. The big specimen trees and long boundary hedges out here vary a lot, so we come and look rather than quote blind. Quotes are free and without obligation.

Can you work on the big specimen trees on the ridge?

Yes. The cedars, redwoods and mature beeches in the older gardens along Nutfield Ridge are some of the more interesting jobs we do. Everything is rigged and lowered in sections rather than dropped, we use the tracked lift where a climb is not the safe option, and we protect the ground and the borders on the way in and out.

What about trees on the wet ground toward Nutfield Marsh?

We plan for it. The ground falls away to heavy, wet soil around the marsh, so willows, alders and poplars are common and access can be soft for much of the year. We bring ground boards to protect the lawn, use the tracked lift where a truck cannot get in, and pick a drier window where the job can wait. Brittle poplars and willows leaning over a lane or a boundary are something we deal with regularly.

Do you take all the waste away?

Always, and it is included in the quote. Brash is chipped, timber is cut into logs and the garden is cleared before we leave. Plenty of people out here keep the logs for the wood burner; just say so and we will stack them where you want them.

Do you do emergency callouts?

Yes, 24 hours a day. The exposed ground on the ridge and the wet ground by the marsh both put trees under strain, and a limb down over a drive or a tree leaning towards the house cannot wait. Call 07519 952330 and we will make it safe first, then sort the full removal or repair once the immediate danger is dealt with.
