Epsom Common, on the west side of town, is mostly silver birch and oak woodland, and gardens on that side get both seeding in. Birch grows fast and often ends up too close to the house, so we reduce it or take it out. Oak wants a lighter touch: we lift and reduce it rather than top it.
Nearer the centre it is more about one big tree in a narrow back garden, conifer hedges that have got too tall, and stumps left from old removals. In a narrow garden we usually take a tree down in sections and carry everything out through the side.
